Following India's defeat to England, Sunil Gavaskar suggested that spinner Kuldeep Yadav should replace Shardul Thakur for the Birmingham Test, anticipating favorable conditions for wrist spin. Gavaskar also expressed concerns about the middle order, particularly Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair after their dismissals.

Following India's recent defeat to England, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has urged the team management to consider strategic changes to the playing XI for the crucial second Test in Birmingham.

Gavaskar specifically recommends the inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav, a talented spinner, in place of Shardul Thakur. He believes that the conditions at Edgbaston will likely favor wrist spin, making Yadav a valuable asset to the team's bowling attack.

"Whether Jasprit Bumrah is fit or not, I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team," Gavaskar stated. "I do believe that he should come into the team for Shardul Thakur because the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner."

Thakur, who recently returned to the Test side, had a relatively quiet performance in the previous match. While he did manage to pick up two wickets in the second innings, Gavaskar suggests that Yadav's spin bowling could offer a more potent threat on the Birmingham pitch.

Although Kuldeep Yadav's previous Test appearance in England didn't yield any wickets, Gavaskar is confident that his variations could be crucial in the upcoming match.

Gavaskar's Thoughts on Middle Order Concerns

Gavaskar also addressed the concerns surrounding the middle order, particularly the performance of debutant Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair. Both batsmen were dismissed for ducks in the first innings, contributing to a batting collapse.

While Gavaskar isn't keen on immediately dropping either player, he hinted at a potential reshuffle if India faces another defeat in the second Test.

“If things don't go well in the second Test, maybe Sai (Sudharsan) and Karun (Nair). I don't want to drop them at the moment. Then I'd also look at Washington (Sundar), so that it really gives you a more solid batting, and also get a little more variety as far the bowling is concerned,” he said.

Following their loss, India aims to level the series against England at Edgbaston, with the match scheduled to begin on July 2.
