Yashasvi Jaiswal, the dynamic Indian opener, is on the cusp of etching his name in the annals of Test cricket. He is just 97 runs shy of becoming the quickest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 Test runs, potentially eclipsing a 49-year-old record held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.

The stage is set for this potential milestone at Edgbaston, where India will clash with England in the second Test, commencing on July 2nd.
Jaiswal's consistent performance has been a significant positive for India, especially during this transitional phase in the Test format. His recent century in the first Test at Headingley showcased his exceptional talent. However, his stellar effort was not enough to prevent India from suffering a five-wicket defeat. Despite setting a formidable target of 371 runs, India was stunned by England's composed chase, spearheaded by Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, and Joe Root, handing England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Jaiswal's individual form remains a beacon of hope for India as they aim to level the series at Edgbaston. In just 20 Tests, he has amassed 1,903 runs at an impressive average of 52.86.
The current record for the fastest Indian to 2,000 Test runs is held by Sunil Gavaskar, who achieved the feat in his 23rd Test in 1976. Gavaskar went on to become the first cricketer to surpass 10,000 Test runs. Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag follow Gavaskar on the list, having reached the 2,000-run mark in their 25th Tests.
With his elegant strokeplay and remarkable composure, Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to join and surpass these legends, providing India with a much-needed impetus in this crucial Test match.
