Chelsea Secures Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in Blockbuster Deal
Chelsea has reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to acquire the services of Jamie Gittens for a fee that could reach €65 million ($76.1m), ESPN sources confirm.
Negotiations between the two clubs intensified during the Club World Cup in the United States, where both Chelsea and Dortmund were participating. The swift progress of these discussions has culminated in this significant transfer.
The 20-year-old winger has reportedly agreed to a seven-year contract with the Premier League side. He is scheduled to undergo a medical examination within the next 48 hours to finalize the deal.
Despite FIFA regulations allowing for the addition of up to two players to Club World Cup squads, Gittens will be ineligible to represent Chelsea in the competition. He is cup-tied due to his appearance as a substitute against Fluminense during the group stage while playing for Borussia Dortmund.
Prior to the Club World Cup, Chelsea had two previous offers for Gittens turned down. The highest bid, amounting to €50 million including add-ons, failed to meet Dortmund's valuation of the player.
Gittens will join a growing number of former Manchester City players at Stamford Bridge, including Liam Delap, who recently arrived from Ipswich Town for £30 million. Cole Palmer and Tosin Adarabioyo also have ties to Manchester City.
With the Gittens deal nearing completion, Chelsea remains committed to bolstering their attacking options. The club is actively pursuing Brighton forward João Pedro, but faces competition from Newcastle in securing his signature.
