Jaya Bachchan Praises Amitabh's Performance in 'Mili' on Film's 50th Anniversary
On the 50th anniversary of the classic film 'Mili,' starring Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan reflected on her experiences during the making of the movie. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, 'Mili' remains a favorite among cinephiles for its nuanced performances.
During an exclusive conversation, Jaya Bachchan shared her thoughts and memories of working on 'Mili.'
"‘Mili’ is one of my favourite films with Hrishi Kaku," she said. "I had already decided to quit, and I thought Abhimaan would be my last film before marriage. But then Hrishi Kaku…," Jaya Bachchan laughed, adding, "It was an irresistible part."
Reflecting on the film's enduring appeal, Jaya Bachchan admitted, "To be fair, I can’t imagine anyone else in that character."
Despite her own acclaimed performance, Jaya Bachchan believes Amitabh Bachchan delivered an even stronger portrayal in 'Mili.'
"I think our (Jaya and Amitabh’s) best films together were ‘Abhimaan’ and ‘Mili.’ I think Amitji gave a better performance than I did in Mili," she stated.
"I consider it to be one of his best performances," Jaya Bachchan added.
Recalling her time working with the legendary Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Jaya Bachchan said, "Like all Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s films, it was quick and very enjoyable. Hrishi Kaku came across as very laidback. But he knew exactly what he wanted from his cast and crew."
"And he wouldn’t rest easy until the shooting happened exactly his way," she concluded.
