Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Gains Momentum After Slow Start
Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated emotional drama, Sitaare Zameen Par, experienced a modest opening at the box office. However, recent trends suggest the film is gaining traction as the day unfolds.
The movie, released today, June 20th, scheduled most screenings to begin after 10 AM, resulting in initially slow advance bookings. According to BookMyShow data, bookings surged by over 10,000 tickets in the last hour alone, indicating growing audience interest.
As of 1 PM today, Sitaare Zameen Par has grossed Rs 1.68 crore in India. Prior to release, advance bookings totaled Rs 3.31 crore from 115,344 tickets across 9,542 shows nationwide. Including blocked seats, the total pre-release booking value reached Rs 6.88 crore, providing a respectable start despite limited early morning shows.
The Hindi belt is the film's primary market, generating Rs 3.19 crore gross from 103,884 tickets in the Hindi 2D format alone. While its presence in regional languages like Tamil and Telugu is limited, it remains notable, particularly with 9,309 tickets sold for the Telugu version.
In comparison, Kuberaa, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, had a stronger opening, earning Rs 3.58 crore by 1 PM on its release day. With a reported budget of Rs 120 crore, Kuberaa has consistently attracted audiences, with advance bookings and early show numbers reflecting strong attendance.
Despite Sitaare Zameen Par's slower start due to show timings and the genre's selective appeal, afternoon and evening shows are expected to perform better. The recent surge in ticket bookings suggests positive word of mouth and growing curiosity.
If the current booking trend continues through the evening and weekend, Sitaare Zameen Par could establish itself at the box office, balancing its day-one numbers with steadily increasing collections. The film's premiere last night was attended by numerous celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Rekha.
